Winter and summer maintenance methods and tips for lithium-ion battery packs

The influence of temperature on the performance of lithium-ion battery pack

For lithium batteries, our focus is often on capacity and energy density. These data can usually directly reflect the length of the battery's cruising range. But what we should note is that most lithium batteries are the products of electrochemistry. Since they are related to chemistry, their performance has a great relationship with temperature.

How much influence does temperature have on the capacity of a lithium battery pack? It can be seen that when the discharge current is 100A, the battery capacity shrinks by 1.7% and 7.7%, respectively, when the temperature goes from 20°C to 0°C and then to -20°C. This means that even if the temperature is as low as -20°C, lithium batteries can still reach more than 90% of the nominal capacity. It can be said that the influence of temperature on the capacity of the lithium-ion battery pack is relatively small.

However, this does not mean that we can ignore the impact of temperature on lithium batteries. According to the information provided by experts, under the condition of a charging current of 5A, the charging time at an ambient temperature of -25°C is 63% slower than the charging time at 25°C.

Winter maintenance method of lithium ion battery pack

After the cold weather, it is obvious to everyone that the battery life of the lithium-ion battery pack has decreased. Lithium-ion batteries are discharged at full power. Generally, the minimum temperature is about 15°C. As the temperature decreases, the maximum discharge current will decrease and the power will attenuate. So the lower the temperature, the shorter the battery life.

1. Do not use lithium ion battery packs in low temperature environments

When the temperature is lower than 0°C, be careful not to charge it outdoors. We can take the lithium-ion battery pack indoors for charging. When the temperature is lower than -20°C, the lithium battery will automatically enter the dormant state and cannot be used normally.

2. Develop the habit of recharging as you use it

In winter, when the power of the lithium battery pack is too low, we must charge it in time, develop a good habit of charging as soon as it is used, and do not estimate the battery power in winter according to the normal battery life.

3. Don't stay away while charging and don't charge for a long time

For fast-charging battery products, the charging time is generally about 1.5 to 3 hours. Don't leave the battery in a charging state for a long time for the sake of convenience. In winter, the charging environment should not be lower than 0℃, and when charging, don't leave too far to prevent emergencies, and deal with it in time.

4. Please use the original charger when charging

The market is flooded with a large number of low-quality chargers, and the use of low-quality chargers can damage the lithium battery pack and even cause a fire. If your charger cannot be used normally, it is recommended to contact the official to purchase a regular charger to ensure the charging quality.

5. Pay attention to the battery life and replace it with a new one in time

Lithium battery packs have lifespans. Different specifications and models have different battery lifespans. In addition to improper daily use, the battery life can range from several months to three years. If your scooter or balance scooter has a power failure or abnormally short battery life, When charging and discharging are not possible, please contact the official to replace the battery in time.

6. Start the car every once in a while, charge it, don't let the battery discharge too much, and don't leave the electric car unoccupied for too long outdoors in winter.

Summer maintenance method for lithium ion battery pack

◆ Lithium-ion batteries should be stored in a cool, dry and safe environment.

◆ Prevent the lithium ion battery from being near heat sources, open flames, flammable and explosive gases, and liquids, which may cause battery leakage, heat generation, smoke, fire and explosion.

◆ If the lithium ion battery needs to be stored for a long time (more than one month), it is recommended to charge it to 40%-60%. If the lithium battery is stored for a long time, the battery should be recharged for 12 hours every month.

◆ It is forbidden to disassemble or modify the battery without authorization, otherwise the warranty will not be provided.

◆ It is strictly forbidden to expose electric vehicles to the hot sun.

◆ During the storage of lithium-ion batteries, metal objects should be prevented from entering the battery box, otherwise it may cause the battery to leak, heat, smoke, fire and explode.

◆It is not recommended to charge lithium-ion batteries at home. When charging, please place the charger and battery in an open and safe place that is stable, dry, free of flammable and explosive materials, and out of the reach of children.

◆ The battery must be charged within 24 hours after the battery is fully discharged, and the charging time shall not be less than 3 hours.

◆ In order to prevent spontaneous combustion, keep good ventilation when charging, because the temperature is relatively high, the charger itself will heat up during charging. Also, don't put the charger on the pedal of the electric car when charging, just put it on the ground, otherwise the temperature of the charger will be too high, and the plastic and the plastic will ignite spontaneously.
